Inequality in Cities

Cities are centers of change – but in many places they are also places of growing inequality. This GIZ study sheds light on how international agendas and the BMZ are working specifically to reduce urban inequalities and address local challenges in the Global South. It analyzes city-related dimensions such as planning, climate-sensitive development, sustainable construction and financing and presents tried-and-tested solutions from different regions of the world. International best-practice examples – from Ukraine to Senegal – illustrate how inclusive, equitable urban development can succeed. Finally, the study provides concrete recommendations for action for a sustainable urban policy.
