Daring Cities Virtual Forum

The Daring Cities’ offer for local and regional government policy advisors, planning officials, national government policy advisors, and other technical experts throughout August to October 2024 consists of a series of virtual offerings and training workshops, emphasizing the theme of addressing the climate emergency through integrated and holistic solutions. The Virtual Forum is dedicated to exploring interconnected factors such as food and nature, within urban policies to ensures comprehensive outcomes for society and the planet.

1st Africa Urban Forum

Theme: “Sustainable Urbanization for Africa’s Transformation – Agenda 2063” The forum has been conceptualized upon the rising consciousness of the rapid urbanization in Africa, its opportunities, & challenges, and the need to create a continental scale forum to support an inclusive and holistic approach to unlocking the potential of urbanization in the continent.   Objectives: Raise the profile of urbanization as an imperative for sustainable and resilient development in Africa. Support inclusive and participatory human settlement development in Africa’s structural transformation and attainment of Agenda 2063. Facilitate dialogues and buy in for sustainable urbanization among Africa’s heads of state and Governments. Identify, discuss, and prioritize emerging and critical issues in inclusive and sustainable urban development from the perspective of different stakeholders. Exchange ideas, best practices and innovative approaches related to sustainable urbanization. Foster collaboration of different stakeholders at various levels to develop strategies, improve programme & project implementation outcomes, share resources, and build capacities.

Innovate4Cities Conference

To link cities, climate change science, and findings from the first Global Stocktake, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have announced that the next Innovate4Cities Conference (I4C2024) is set to take place for the first time in Montreal, Canada from 10-12 September 2024.

Summit of the Future 2024

The Summit is a high-level event, bringing world leaders together to forge a new international consensus on how we deliver a better present and safeguard the future. This once-in-a-generation opportunity serves as a moment to mend eroded trust and demonstrate that international cooperation can effectively tackle current challenges as well as those that have emerged in recent years or may yet be over the horizon. The Summit of the Future will look at the "how" – how do we cooperate better to deliver on the above aspiration and goals? How do we better meet the needs of the present while also preparing for the challenges of the future?

Urban October 2024 @ GIZ

Urban October is an opportunity started by UN Habitat for everyone to be part of the conversation about the challenges and opportunities created by the fast rate of change in our cities and towns. Each October, everyone interested in sustainable urbanization from national and local governments to universities, NGOs, and communities is encouraged to hold or participate in activities, events, and discussions. The month begins with World Habitat Day on the first Monday of the month and ends with World Cities Day on 31 October. Activities take place on those specific days or at any time during the month. CBD COP 16 (UN Biodiversity Conference 2024)

COP 16 will be the first Biodiversity COP since the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at COP 15 in December 2022 in Montreal, Canada. At COP 16, governments will be tasked with reviewing the state of implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Parties to the Convention are expected to show the alignment of their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with the Framework. COP 16 will further develop the monitoring framework and advance resource mobilization for the Global Biodiversity Framework. Among other tasks, COP 16 is also due to finalize and operationalize the multilateral mechanism on the fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of digital sequence information on genetic resources. The World Urban Forum (WUF) is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established by the United Nations in 2001 to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies and climate change. Over the past two decades, WUF has evolved into the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. Convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the forum is a unique non-legislative platform and one of the most inclusive international gatherings on urban issues. The first WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002 and has been held around the world ever since. The WUF12 will be held from 4–8 November 2024 in Cairo, Egypt and is co-organized by UN-Habitat and the Government of Egypt
