Urban Collaboration Platform Conference 2024 (UCP2024)

This year’s UCP Conference is hosted by the Asia Pacific Disaster Resilience Center (APDRC) with the support of the Korean Red Cross under the main theme "Advancing Local Climate Actions in Cities". Aim: bring together National Societies to exchange learning and share good practices on urban resilience programming and collaboration to advancing local climate action in Cities, looking preparedness especially towards heatwaves but also at urban response, especially in fragile context of conflict and violence (FCV) in urban areas. Worth to know:The recent partnership of IFRC with ICLEI formalized in the side event of COP28 in Dubai is also an opportunity to support National Society branches operating in cities in advancing urban community resilience programs. This and other global partnerships such as with MCR2030 and WWF will be used as leverage in engaging a collaborative discussion between National Societies and city governments

High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2024

The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held from Monday, 8 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Monday, 15 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024 as part of the High-level Segment of the Council. The last day of the High-level Segment of ECOSOC will be on Thursday, 18 July 2024. The theme will be "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. (A/DEC/77/553)

Innovate4Cities Conference

To link cities, climate change science, and findings from the first Global Stocktake, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have announced that the next Innovate4Cities Conference (I4C2024) is set to take place for the first time in Montreal, Canada from 10-12 September 2024.

Summit of the Future 2024

Climate Week NYC 2024

Climate Week NYC is the largest annual climate event of its kind, bringing together over 500 events and activities across the City of New York – in person, hybrid and online. Each year, business leaders, political change makers, local decision takers and civil society representatives of all ages and backgrounds, from all over the world, gather to drive the transition, speed up progress, and champion change that is already happening. Climate Week NYC is hosted by Climate Group, an international non-profit whose purpose is to drive climate action, fast. Climate Group hosts the official program during the week that brings together the most senior international figures from business, government, civil society and the climate sector.

Urban October 2024

Urban October is an opportunity started by UN Habitat for everyone to be part of the conversation about the challenges and opportunities created by the fast rate of change in our cities and towns. Each October, everyone interested in sustainable urbanization from national and local governments to universities, NGOs, and communities is encouraged to hold or participate in activities, events, and discussions. The month begins with World Habitat Day on the first Monday of the month and ends with World Cities Day on 31 October. Activities take place on those specific days or at any time during the month. Every year, GIZ Sector Programme Cities hosts an elaborate event programme throughout the month, which will be acessible on City-transitions.global.

World Urban Forum 2024

The World Urban Forum (WUF) is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established by the United Nations in 2001 to examine one of the most pressing issues facing the world: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies and climate change. Over the past two decades, WUF has evolved into the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. Convened by the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), the forum is a unique non-legislative platform and one of the most inclusive international gatherings on urban issues. The first WUF was held in Nairobi, Kenya in 2002 and has been held around the world ever since. The WUF12 will be held from 4–8 November 2024 in Cairo, Egypt and is co-organized by UN-Habitat and the Government of Egypt

2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29)

The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) will convene in November 2024. It will include the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29), the 19th meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 19), and the sixth meeting of the COP serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 6) that will convene to complete the first enhanced transparency framework and the new collective quantified goal on finance, among other matters. The 61st sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 61) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 61) will also meet.

G20 Rio de Janeiro Summit 2024

The G20 Summit represents the conclusion of the work carried out by the country holding the group's rotating presidency. It is the moment when heads of state and government approve the agreements negotiated throughout the year and point out ways of dealing with global challenges. In Brasil, the G20 Leaders' Summit is scheduled for November 18 and 19, 2024, in Rio de Janeiro, with the presence of the leaders of the 19 member countries, plus the African Union and the European Union.
