Nature Based Solutions and Green infrastructure have a big potential to integrate biodiversity, resilience and climate adaptation and mitigation in urban development, as well as many other co benefits.
This event will present three experiences from the project Biocitis and Cities Adapt where local communities have taken the lead to build these solutions.
Through the presentations we will see see the role of women, youth, and indigenous in addressing climate change and how working together with other stakeholders can lead to a scale up to generate green and equitable cities.

Adriana Salazar is an Advisor at CitiesAdapt at the GIZ, contributing to climate resilience in cities in Mexico and South Africa. An economist and development planner, she has worked in the private sector, with NGOs and governments in the fields of social development, climate change and sustainability.

Said Andrés Chuc Yam, Head of planning and information systems, City of Merida
Said has participated and coordinated several urban projects in Merida oriented to urban planning and resilience, nature-based stormwater infrastructure and elder-friendly city strategies. Currently, is the focal point for the “Cities Adapt” climate adaptation project in Merida.
Auribel Villa Avendaño
Auribel Villa Avendaño, Technical coordinator of the project Protecting Mexican coastal regions and their marine ecosystems by reducing plastic waste (Procep)
Auribel coordinated the project Biocitis implemented in Mexico by GIZ. She has expertise in Urban Nature Solutions and Green Infraestructure and has worked to promote sustainable cities from different sectors such as international cooperation, local governments and academia.
Martha Laura Peña Ordóñez
Martha Laura Peña Ordoñez, Independent consultant and executive secretary of the National Council for Urban Development (CONARED)
Martha is an Architect specialized in urbanism, with a large professional experience in participatory planning and urban design, she has leaded several civil organizations. Working for the National Ministry of Agrarian Territorial and Urban Development (SEDATU), she was in charge of the follow up of the Presidency of the United Nations Habitat Assembly 2023-2024.
