Collaborative Alliances for Sustainable Urban Regions 

German-Asian Transdisciplinary Research 

The future of sustainable urban regions lies in the hands of citizens and decision-makers. Researchers of three projects funded by the Sustainable Development of Urban Regions (SURE) funding priority are currently working on innovative solutions focusing on risk management, management of urban water resources, socio-ecologically urban-rural development, and integrated living and housing in Southeast Asia and China. The approaches used will be highlighted and discussed during the event.

Sarah Vogel

Sarah Vogl, TÜV Rheinland Consulting Sarah Vogel

Sarah Vogl is a consultant in the Research Management Segment of TÜV Rheinland Consulting. She holds a PhD in Chemistry and has previously worked in materials science. Her expertise lies in providing project support and overseeing innovation programs in Europe, specifically in the areas of sustainability and mobility. Her focus is on knowledge transfer, fostering both interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary connections, and managing stakeholder relationships.

Paula Hüttl

Paula Hüttl is a consultant in the Research Management Segment of TÜV Rheinland Consulting. She holds a M.Sc. in Economics. Her main areas of expertise include project support in the fields of sustainable urban development and mobility. Her focus is on knowledge transfer, inter- and transdisciplinary networking and stakeholder management.

Prof. Dr. Anke Hagemann

Prof. Dr. Anke Hagemann, Acting Professor, Chair of International Urbanism and Design (Habitat Unit), Technische Universität Berlin Prof. Dr. Anke Hagemann 

Anke Hagemann is an acting professor at the Chair of International Urbanism, TU Berlin, where she heads the Urban Rural Assembly research consortium. She taught at ETH Zurich, HCU Hamburg and BTU Cottbus. Her research topics include global commodity circulation and urban space, urban-rural development, co-creation in strategic planning processes.

Dr. Michael Waibel

Dr. Michael Waibel, Senior Researcher, Build4People project leader, Hamburg University Dr. Michael Waibel

Dr. Michael Waibel is at the Department of Geography of the University of Hamburg, since 2008. He holds a PhD in Human Geography and a M.Sc. on economic geography, geography and national economy with key competencies in urbanism, green housing, urban governance and sustainable urban transformation.

Dr. Bernd Gutterer

Dr. Bernd Gutterer, Senior project manager, BORDA e.V. Dr. Bernd Gutterer

Bernd Gutterer is trained in sociology, economics, philosophy, and natural resource management. He has experience in development and scientific cooperation across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. His current focus is on sustainable, water-sensitive urban transformation.
