WUF 12: Event

How to Make Public Transport Work

Accelerating Access Through Money, Tech, and the Private Sector

Urban areas are facing declining public transport ridership, exacerbating environmental pollution and social inequality. This event explores policies to strengthen public transport, focusing on fiscal support, digitalization, and formalization. While money, tech, and the private sector are key drivers, good governance forms the bedrock for accelerating access. This panel showcases success stories from around the world, including from the IKI ACCESS project. It discusses how strategic investments and digital technologies can revolutionize urban mobility, making cities more equitable and green.

The event will kick off with a welcome from the organizers—UNEP, IDOS, and ITDP—followed by a panel discussion with 3-4 experts. The session will conclude with closing reflections and opportunities for collaboration.
