The world generates over 2 billion tons of solid waste each year, including South Africa, straining collection systems and the environment. This talk showcases an Urban Digital Twin prototype that integrates real-time monitoring, citizen input, and optimised collection routes to cut costs, fuel use, and emissions. With an interactive dashboard and strong stakeholder engagement, the approach demonstrates how digital twinning can transform waste management, especially in resource-limited settings, and scale across cities and systems.
