SUMMARY:How to Make Public Transport Work -- Speaker Profile
DESCRIPTION:Accelerating Access Through Money\, Tech\, and the Private Sector \nUrban areas are facing declining public transport ridership\, exacerbating environmental pollution and social inequality. This event explores policies to strengthen public transport\, focusing on fiscal support\, digitalization\, and formalization. While money\, tech\, and the private sector are key drivers\, good governance forms the bedrock for accelerating access. This panel showcases success stories from around the world\, including from the IKI ACCESS project. It discusses how strategic investments and digital technologies can revolutionize urban mobility\, making cities more equitable and green.  \nEvent Format\nThe event will kick off with a welcome from the organizers—UNEP\, IDOS\, and ITDP—followed by a panel discussion with 3-4 experts. The session will conclude with closing reflections and opportunities for collaboration.  \nModerator\n\n					Janene Tuniz\n					Janene Tuniz\, Sustainable Mobility Officer\, United Nations  Environment Programme (UNEP)  \nBased at UNEP in Nairobi\, Janene supports national and local authorities in sustainable urban mobility\, focusing on walking\, cycling\, and digital solutions. With a background in low-carbon transport in the Global South. Previously\, she worked as a project manager at the UN-Habitat.\n				   \nSpeakers\n\n					Maruxa Cardama\, Secretary General\n					Maruxa Cardama\, Secretary General\, SLOCAT \nPassionate about social\, political\, economic and environmental justice for human development\, Maruxa specialises in integrated urban and territorial development. Over her 17-year career\, Maruxa has worked with multilateral institutions\, national\, regional and local governments\, NGOs and philanthropy in 33 countries across continents to develop public policies\, capacity and implementation projects\, and multi-stakeholder partnerships that advance sustainability and equitable prosperity. \n				\n\n					Dr. Nicholas Goedeking\, Senior Researcher\n					Dr. Nicholas Goedeking\, Senior Researcher\, German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) \n \nNicholas’ research focuses on the political economy of urban climate governance. He is particularly interested in examining the factors driving government investment in public transportation. Prior to joining IDOS\, Nicholas was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Sussex Business School. He earned his PhD in Environmental Science\, Policy\, and Management from the University of California\, Berkeley.  \n				\n\n					Ana Nassar\n					Ana Nassar\, Program Director\, ITDP Brazil  \nAna Nassar joined the ITDP Brazil staff in November 2014 as program director\, responsible for project management and planning.
