Discussing study results and recommendations
As urbanisation accelerates, the climate crisis is intensifying, particularly affecting marginalised urban dwellers. Building on recent research on loss and damage in informal settlements, this panel discusses multi-level approaches to effectively avert, minimise, and address loss and damage and to localise funding arrangements. By combining insights from academia, civil society, practitioners and policy makers, this event contributes to understanding and responding to the specific vulnerabilities and needs of urban communities in informal settings and their human rights implications.

Kai has academic qualifications in political ecology and international cooperation. He publishes on transformative urban climate action, loss and damage, and the right to the city, accompanies SDG11 related projects and advocates for human rights and community-based urban development pathways.

Dr Simone Sandholz, Academic Officer, Head of Urban Futures and Sustainability Transformation (FAST) Programme of United Nations University’s Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) 
Simone Sandholz’ focus is on urban and regional development and systemic transformation. She particularly looks at vulnerable urban groups and how their livelihoods can be improved through policy and action, including recommendations for global policy-making and implementation of global frameworks.
Samuel Olando
Samuel Olando, Executive Director, Pamojra Trust (Nairobi), a non-profit organisation that promotes access to land, shelter, and basic services for vulnerable groups 
As trained urban sociologist and lawyer, Samuel Olando has made valuable contributions to human rights policies and legislations, especially in the domains of habitat and housing. He has a strong track record of advocating for just urbanisation, community participation, and access to land.
Dr Nuha Eltinay
Dr Nuha Eltinay, Senior Urban Resilience and Climate Adaptation Expert at ICLEI European Secretariat 
Dr. Nuha Eltinay is a Senior Urban Resilience and Climate Adaptation Expert at ICLEI Europe, with over 15 years’ experience in DRR, working with the World Bank and UNDRR in the MENA Region on mapping urban resilience vulnerabilities, disasters loss and damage, and conflicts socio-economic impacts.

Sebastian Herold, Senior policy officer, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) 
Sebastian Herold, senior policy officer, responsible for urban development within the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Studied social anthropology and politics. Trained journalist and systemic coach. Worked for GIZ and with BMZ since 2014.
Joseph Schechla

Joseph Schechla, a founder of Housing and Land Rights Network (HLRN), advocates applying human rights norms related to the habitat. With a background is in international relations, he has served as a representative of OHCHR and advisor to the ILO, and has published on displacement impacts globally.
