ISCN Global Mixer: Data-based assessment of climate shelter accessibility in Barcelona

Cities are increasingly affected by heat waves in summers, and many municipalities are seeking solutions to protect vulnerable groups. Barcelona has over 360 climate shelters in public spaces such as school, libraries, or parks, providing protection during high temperatures.

But do high-risk groups have adequate access to shelters during heatwaves? In this episode of the ISCN Global Mixer, Serena Mombelli and Patricio Reyes will answer this question and show how data-driven analysis can support human-centric urban planning and support policy making.

The analysis is a result of the collaboration between Barcelona City Council and vCity, platform for urban digital twins that facilitates informed decision making in urban development.
