The most beautiful residential quarter of Bonn was built between 1850 and 1910. The Gründerzeit district had survived the World War nearly unscathed. The post-war period, until the introduction of the Cultural Heritage Law, was less fortunate. Nevertheless, the Südstadt remained a self-contained area of Gründerzeit architecture.
The tour also includes urban planning and traffic-related issues, as well as the history of the residents of the district. Among the places shown are Schinkel’s University Observatory and the villa of the Jewish geographer Philippson.
