As cities plan and implement projects that will help them adapt to climate change, they are focusing on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) such as restoring wetlands or daylighting rivers in built up areas. These solutions can be costly, but the benefits for the environment can shadow the scale of the investment. However, local governments face constraints for implementing NbS, especially in terms of securing land and funding. This session will explore the potential of using Land-based Financing (LBF) to overcome constraints and challenges in this regard. Using short technical inputs and implementation examples, it will demonstrate the potential of LBF for implementing key components of the climate agenda.
