WORKING TOGETHER

How Can GIZ Projects Bring Partner Cities Closer to Climate Finance

We want to collaborate with you! If you work with municipal or state authorities (especially in Africa, MENA, eastern neighbourhood and Asia) that are interested in investing in climate-smart infrastructure, but lack the studies required by financiers, then we are looking for you.
The City Climate Finance Gap Fund (Gap Fund) supports cities low and middle-income countries in the development of climate-friendly projects in the transport, waste, energy, and nature-based solutions sectors. We do so by providing technical assistance for early project preparation studies and link them to other project preparation facilities for further support. The Gap Fund already approved requests for support of nearly 30 cities, on topics ranging from electrifying school buses in Bogotá (Colombia) to establishing green roofs in Podgorica (Montenegro), and waste management in Rosario (Argentina) and we are looking to do more!
Why would this be interesting for you? The Gap Fund offers an opportunity for GIZ to provide additional support to your partners, complementing existing bilateral activities. In addition to advisory, the Gap Fund opens the door for cities to the European Investment Bank as we will hear in this session from the Senior Economist at EIB and head of the Gap Fund Technical Secretariat, Giulia Macango. Furthermore, we will explain what we can offer as the Gap Fund, and hope to hear ideas from you of cities and programmes we can work with.
