The 60th sessions of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) are scheduled to take place in June 2024.

Urban Future is a series of events, field trips, sessions and workshops where everything revolves around sustainable urban development. The main question is: How do we make our cities better? From 5 to 7 June 2024, the city of Rotterdam will welcome CityChangers from all over the world at the main conference venue – Rotterdam AHOY. The entire first week of June will be filled with side events and social happenings throughout the city and beyond. What is it all about? The #UF24 core themes include Climate Adaptation, Building Sustainable Cities, Social Aspects of Transformation plus Leadership and Personal Growth. The overall goal of the event is to accelerate the transformation to sustainable cities by connecting relevant stakeholders, regardless if they are representing municipalities, start-ups, NGOs or business industry leaders.

The URC2024 is a continuation of the annual series of high-level political events dedicated to the swift recovery and long-term reconstruction of Ukraine since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine. It is also the first Ukraine Recovery Conference hosted in an EU member state and comes at a critical time for Ukraine. The conference will reflect the Lugano principles, including a “whole of society” approach to recovery through the meaningful participation of a broad range of stakeholders. Upholding the spirit of the Ukraine Reform Conferences that took place up until 2022, the URC2024 will also showcase Ukrainian reform progress in the context of its economic resilience and the EU accession process.

The G7 Summit will be held in Borgo Egnazia, in Apulia, on June 13-15, 2024. The event will bring together the Leaders of the seven member States, as well as the President of the European Council and the President of the European Commission representing the European Union. In line with previous G7 fora, representatives of a number of States and International Organizations will take part in the work, invited by the Nation that holds the Presidency. The International Media Centre will be located at the Fiera del Levante exhibition centre in Bari (Lungomare Starita 4 – 70132 Bari).

In June 2024, the ICLEI network will come together for the ICLEI World Congress 2024, hosted by the City of São Paulo, Brazil. Every three years, the ICLEI World Congress showcases how local and regional governments across our network are advancing sustainable urban development worldwide.

We are running out of time to resolve existential threats such as poverty, hunger and climate change. We need courageous decisions and large-scale solutions. The Hamburg Sustainability Conference challenges barriers to SDG implementation, while steering momentum with a systemic approach to answer questions such as: How can value chains become climate-friendly and create more value in the Global South? How can the enormous potential of the private sector be unleashed to achieve the SDGs? And how can we help  today's sustainability pioneers to set tomorrow's standards?

London Climate Action Week (LCAW) harnesses the power of London for global climate action. The annual event brings together the city's world-leading array of climate professionals and communities. Now in its sixth year, LCAW creates space for participants to come together and find global solutions to climate change. This year’s programming will promote cooperation between key parts of the London climate ecosystem and improve the impact of London’s global climate action networks into the future. LCAW 2024 will showcase London as the leading city of how the whole of society can together shape and drive climate action.

The event brings together city representatives, experts, and stakeholders from local and regional institutions to discuss strategies, initiatives, and actions affiliating to climate change adaptation, disaster management, and the cultivation of urban resilience.

This year’s UCP Conference is hosted by the Asia Pacific Disaster Resilience Center (APDRC) with the support of the Korean Red Cross under the main theme "Advancing Local Climate Actions in Cities". Aim: bring together National Societies to exchange learning and share good practices on urban resilience programming and collaboration to advancing local climate action in Cities, looking preparedness especially towards heatwaves but also at urban response, especially in fragile context of conflict and violence (FCV) in urban areas. Worth to know:The recent partnership of IFRC with ICLEI formalized in the side event of COP28 in Dubai is also an opportunity to support National Society branches operating in cities in advancing urban community resilience programs. This and other global partnerships such as with MCR2030 and WWF will be used as leverage in engaging a collaborative discussion between National Societies and city governments

The High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) will be held from Monday, 8 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. This includes the three-day ministerial segment of the forum from Monday, 15 July, to Wednesday, 17 July 2024 as part of the High-level Segment of the Council. The last day of the High-level Segment of ECOSOC will be on Thursday, 18 July 2024. The theme will be "Reinforcing the 2030 Agenda and eradicating poverty in times of multiple crises: the effective delivery of sustainable, resilient and innovative solutions”. (A/DEC/77/553)

The Daring Cities’ offer for local and regional government policy advisors, planning officials, national government policy advisors, and other technical experts throughout August to October 2024 consists of a series of virtual offerings and training workshops, emphasizing the theme of addressing the climate emergency through integrated and holistic solutions. The Virtual Forum is dedicated to exploring interconnected factors such as food and nature, within urban policies to ensures comprehensive outcomes for society and the planet.

Theme: “Sustainable Urbanization for Africa’s Transformation – Agenda 2063” The forum has been conceptualized upon the rising consciousness of the rapid urbanization in Africa, its opportunities, & challenges, and the need to create a continental scale forum to support an inclusive and holistic approach to unlocking the potential of urbanization in the continent.   Objectives: Raise the profile of urbanization as an imperative for sustainable and resilient development in Africa. Support inclusive and participatory human settlement development in Africa’s structural transformation and attainment of Agenda 2063. Facilitate dialogues and buy in for sustainable urbanization among Africa’s heads of state and Governments. Identify, discuss, and prioritize emerging and critical issues in inclusive and sustainable urban development from the perspective of different stakeholders. Exchange ideas, best practices and innovative approaches related to sustainable urbanization. Foster collaboration of different stakeholders at various levels to develop strategies, improve programme & project implementation outcomes, share resources, and build capacities.
